The Azores are so much more than just a wonderful hikers ‘paradise. Aside from stunning landscapes and well-marked hiking trails, these islands also offer natural swimming pools, whale and dolphin watching, golf courts, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, surfing and lots of fascinating cultural history. Let yourself be enchanted and top of your day with wine from the Pico vineyards, a traditional meal or a delicious pasteis!

Every island is so unique that it would be a shame to visit just one of them. On our website you can read more about the highlights on São Miguel, Faial, Pico, São Jorge and Terceira Island. YŪGEN has selected these 5 islands because of their diversity. In total the archipelo consists of 9 islands.

The Azores and sustainability

The Azores are our 3rd destination which won a prize at the ITB Earth Awards in Berlin, in the category BEST OF THE ATLANTIC. It is not the first time that The Azores are awarded for their efforts in sustainability. Already in 2013 a global program compared the sustainable tourism practices of 1000 islands and coastal destinations. The Azores were the first ever to be awarded the Platinum Quality Coast Award. Over the years to come, the Blue Azores program will keep on focussing on the conservation and expansion of protected marine areas. Renewable energy, rational use of water, an Eco-school, scientific research of cetaceans and birds, fishing codes of conduct and so many more initiatives are put in place to make sure that this upcoming tourism destination will be protected against the effects of irresponsible profit seekers.

Our choice for local partners

Also in The Azores YŪGEN tours has chosen its local partner carefully, based on respect, not only towards people but also for fauna and flora. Every journey should support the local economy and the traveler has to be able to enjoy a real authentic experience. YŪGEN believes it is important to leave as little trace as possible when traveling and to only observe, not disturb wildlife. Consequently, to name just one example of our code of conduct, we have chosen not to collaborate with entrepreneurs who offer certain activities such as swimming with dolphins because we are convinced this does not lead to any positive effects on the dolphins, on the contrary. Together with our local partner, we do offer the observation of marine life, in a responsible, educational way and under the guidance of professionals. Last but not least, working with local partners means we can customize any journey just the way you like it.

If you like to find out more on what to do and see on these magnificent islands, let yourself be inspired by the example itineraries on our website or follow us on FB and Instagram as I will be visiting the Azores in June. And, I will make sure to post several pictures of my adventures on these islands.

Share your smile, go yugenstyle,
