In all our destinations there are registered cases of COVID-19 and so all destinations have implemented new rules concerning travel in and out of the country. These new rules can change or be prolonged at any time, making it difficult to provide clear and up-to-date information. Sometimes info is outdated only a few days later. Therefor we advice to follow up on the most recent information online on official websites which offer travel advice, such as the website of your own government as well as the websites of the destinations which we mention below.

Belgian citizens can follow up on the travel advice for Portugal and the Azores by clicking the following link:

New measures into effect in Portugal and Azores until at least April 3rd

Several cases of Covid19 haven been established on mainland Portugal, especially in the northern part of the country and around Lisbon. The Azores currently have 3 confirmed cases. Portugal has also implemented the State of Emergency and has implemented similar measures to the ones Belgium has implemented over the last days. Aside from musea, bars, etcetera being closed, please note following travel restrictions:

  • As of March 19, flights were cancelled in the Schengen area, creating suspension of flights within and outside Europe. All flights with Spain, from all airlines, commercial or private, to or from the Portuguese airports or aerodromes, have been suspended.
  • From March 23, anyone entering Portugal must be quarantined for 14 days from the day of arrival.
  • Passengers on flights to the Azores and Madeira and between the islands of each archipelago will be subject to a period of 14 days of quarantine upon arrival.

If you have booked any inter-island flights in the near future with Azores Airlines please check the options for your flight dates here:

Travelers should be prepared for new travel restrictions to be put into effect or existing restrictons to be prolonged with little or no advance notice.
